Meet Dr Hayley (DCouns)
Hi, I’m Hayley (she/her). I’m so glad you’re here!
Dr Hayley Bell (DCouns) (she/her) is a Licensed Psychologist in the state of Maine and a Chartered Counseling Psychologist in Ireland. She is the founder of The Bell Practice, a clinic in Southern Maine dedicated to providing research-backed and relationally targeted care. As an American who received her professional training in Ireland, she approaches her clinical practice with a globally informed perspective. Dr Hayley strongly believes in work led by empathy and the importance of advocacy in practice.
She provides therapeutic services for both individuals and families. Hayley works with adults of all ages, and children 10 and older. She offers parental coaching as a support for families with younger children. Outside of therapy, she has engaged in speaking engagements, consultation, and psychoeducational app development.
Therapeutic Approach
Dr Hayley combines her clinical experience with compassionate care to create a treatment plan tailored to each client. She works with a wide range of presenting difficulties, including trauma, anxiety, perfectionism, depression, and more. She has a specialty in working with Neurodivergent clients and their families.
Dr Hayley’s therapeutic approach is grounded in Emotion-Focused therapy (EFT), supporting her clients by gaining insight, knowledge, and skills to support a healthier response to strong emotions. She is a trained Attachment Based Family Therapist (ABFT). ABFT is a manualised and empirically supported model aimed at targeting family and individual processes associated with adolescent mental health difficulties. In addition to EFT and ABFT, Dr Hayley draws from a variety of approaches, including Unified Protocol CBT and Interpersonal Neurobiology.
Education and Credentials
Dr Hayley received her Doctorate in Counseling Psychology from Trinity College Dublin in 2021. Dr Hayley completed clinical internships with Adult Primary Care (within Ireland’s national health system), Student Counseling in Trinity College Dublin, and Ireland’s Child Protective Service (TUSLA) on their Assessment and Consultation Team. She engaged in post- doctoral training with The Insight Centre (Dublin, Ireland), a multi-disciplinary practice focused on neurodevelopmental assessment and therapy for children, families, and adults.
Prior to her professional training, Dr Hayley worked in child health and development research, studying the impact of adverse childhood experiences (ACES). Hayley’s experience in research alongside her clinical training have contributed towards her commitment towards providing personalized, evidence-based care.
